The Woman, behind the art, and in front of it.
MY PASSION MISSION
I am inspired by assisting others to find their potential through creativity. I am passionate about art’s creative process and how it can enhance self discovery, increase self awareness, offer healing and assist one to see their potential in the world.
Go ahead, make a mess!
Giving yourself permission to create is about, letting go of the outcome, immersing yourself in an experience, and letting the creative process guide you. There are no mistakes only paths to get you to the next place.
WHO THE HELL AM I?
I come from 4 generations of working artists. I was told, “Don’t be an artist, it’s too hard.” I instead earned a BFA in creative writing and then Nursing. After 20 years of creating art privately and working 15 years as an RN, I came to a place where it felt like I had one of two choices. 1. Continue to not embrace being an artist and slowly drain the joy and love and gifts you have from your soul or 2. Jump into fear, move past it, and choose to do what you know you are meant to do, be an artist. I jumped in 2018. Since then I have sold over 100 paintings, joined a local art co op, served on several community art boards, created a VR game about art and eating disorders with the local university, and a few more things, however…. in Oct 2021 I discovered NFTS and crypto currency. I knew immediately this was my path. Since then I have sold over 150 NFTs with a recent collection selling out in 11 minutes on the etherium blockchain. I have gone from 15 followers to 2500 in 5 months. It has been a hard working journey but I have found my way, my connection to the world and an introduction to the future that I am honored to be a part of. I am only just beginning! Who the hell am I? I am a human planet bouncing around earth and sometimes bumping into other planets.
MORE WORDS, SO MANY WORDS
There are so many ways to look at things, maybe that is why I rotate my canvas when I paint. I use mixed media and acrylics to add layers. I begin with the movement of paint across canvas, sometimes blending and smearing colors with my fingers. Shapes and textures form, and images are revealed to me. A final piece often has 2-3 paintings underneath; each one a different story, emotion or interaction with the world that I am trying to process. With each creation, I feel the struggle of the human spirit; to let go, be free, to play without boundaries verses the constraints of needing to control the details of life, interactions and the manners for which we accomplish things. Within each piece there is a duality of this act of letting go and the need for control. -Becka
WHO
It is the process of creation that I get lost in. I often paint in the middle of the night, when the world feels quiet. I am an Artist, a Writer and a Registered Nurse. Each art piece has an accompanying written story that ranges from addressing painful human experiences to clever and whimsical stories about invented fish. My art continues to evolve in line with my own personal growth and healing. I live in Idaho. I have 3 dogs, and a very messy art studio.
HOW
I am either trying to control things or totally letting go. I paint with my fingers, tools, and brushes. I pour, smear, smack, scratch, sand, remove, peel, press, and adhere paint and materials atop stretched canvas. With precision, I also paint controlled lines, outlining images I find within the textures and materials. I then like to take paintings out of their traditional setting; either chop them up, paint over them repeatedly, or destroy and put them back together. Sometimes they end up beautiful, sometimes not.
WHY
Each creation houses my struggle to either let go or control the outcome. Each piece reflects my own journey of reassessing my life, changing it, tearing it apart, putting it back together, then accepting in the end, the reward is in the movement of creating and not trying to control everything.
